Choosing LEGO Sets for Gifts
Ole Kirk Christiansen, who started making wooden toys, ironing boards, and stepladders at his Billund, Denmark workshop, probably did not imagine that his colourful bricks, which he made at his own workshop, would one day become the most loved toy company in the world.
However, the father and son Godtfred were able to rescue victory from the brink of adversity by adopting Lego in a new direction.
Ole Kirk Christiansen
Ole Kirk Christiansen is a Danish carpenter who was raised in a small village on the edge of the countryside. He made his love for whittling into one of world's favorite toys. Known as LEGO bricks, the construction toys are played with in 130 countries around the world by a vast number of children and adults.
In 1924, his woodworking shop was destroyed completely by fire. The cause of the fire was by two of Ole's sons who had ignited the fire with shavings of wood. Despite the loss of wood, Ole rebuilt and soon expanded his company through the sale of wooden toys.
During the yo-yo craze in the 1930s, the company produced so many yo-yos unsellable that the company was nearly bankrupt. Luckily, Vejle Bank stepped in with a loan and Ole rebuilt the factory. Ole rebranded the company Leg Godt (Danish for "play well") to reflect its new direction.

Godtfred Christiansen
Godtfred Kirk Christiansen, who built his father's wooden toy business into a worldwide toy empire, died at home in Billund, Denmark. He was 75.
After a fire destroyed the wood toy factory owned by the family, Godtfred decided the company should focus on plastic toys. His brothers, Karl and Gerhardt--who had been the directors of plastic and wood product manufacturing respectively--disagreed.
Godtfred was on a ferry from London when he stumbled upon a buyer. He suggested that, instead of making unique toys, toy manufacturers should develop a system where sets of toys can be interconnected. That led to the development of the modern Lego Stud-and-tube concept, which was patent-pending on 28 January 1958.
The Kiddicraft brick
In the late 1940s, a corporation known as Kiddicraft came out with the "Kiddicraft Self-Locking Building Bricks". These were hollow rectangular plastic blocks with four round studs on top. The studs fit snugly into the studs on a different block.
Kirk Christiansen, Godtfred and a British supplier for the first machine for injection molding were shown these bricks by the salesman to show the types of toys they could create. Kirk Christiansen, regardless of whether was aware or not that the bricks were patentable, copied them and changed their name to Lego. It was the start of a toy business which is still worth billions today. Hilary Fisher Page, the creator of Kiddicraft was killed in the year 1957.
The machine for plastic injection molding
Lego bricks are among the most sought-after toys in the world. The fact that Lego bricks are strong and durable in addition to being children-friendly is the reason they are so popular. Kids have built everything from spaceships to cities using the blocks.
Godtfred's thought process for the stud and tube system came from an interaction with a toy buyer. The buyer suggested toy manufacturers should develop a system which sets of toys are interrelated and can be used to construct various kinds of structures. The Lego system was created from the idea. In 1971, sets with furniture and dollhouses were introduced. Lego also widened its transportation options with boat and ships with hulls that floated.
The Town Plan
Lego's Technic series, which contained mechanical components with intricate details set the standard for the 1980s. Nine years later, it introduced the Minifigure citizens of yellow which are featured in themed play sets. In the same year Lego introduced Duplo, a line of larger blocks for younger children that cannot easily manage the smaller original bricks.
In the present, Lego is a global toy empire that has 10 theme parks and a film franchise. Lego is also a company which has a loyal following amongst its customers despite this expansion. The reason for this is the fact that Lego feels less like an uncompromising commercial venture rather than a familiar family member.
Ninjago is a popular theme that has been adopted by a number of.
Lego has grown into so much more than an ordinary toy. In 1998 it was dubbed Toy of the Century, surpassing Barbie and teddy bears and has developed into a media empire that includes television series, books, and theme park attractions.
The company also offers a line of programmable robots named Mindstorms, which has been instrumental in shaping the company's educational strategy. Seymour Papert, the founder of the concept of constructionism as well as the company's educational philosophy believes that kids are most effective when they construct things.
Ninjago is now the main theme at Lego conventions and also the film inspired massive collaborative builds.
